Biography & Research Interests
Dr. Nibedita Deb is a distinguished researcher in chemical, biotechnology, and environmental engineering, with a strong commitment to advancing sustainable environmental and energy solutions. Her work focuses on developing practical, scalable technologies to address global challenges such as waste valorization, renewable energy production, and pollution control.
A core area of her research involves transforming industrial and domestic waste into valuable bioenergy resources. She has made significant contributions to the development of integrated bioreactor systems, combining anaerobic digestion with microbial electrolysis cells (MEC) to enhance biomethane production from food waste and palm oil mill effluent (POME). She has also developed an efficient single-reactor system for the pretreatment and fermentation of POME into bioethanol, significantly improving biofuel yield and process efficiency.
Dr. Deb is a co-inventor of a patented electrostatic method designed to enhance biohydrogen production, further highlighting her role in advancing sustainable energy technologies. Her interdisciplinary research also incorporates artificial intelligence, including the co-development of deep learning models for agricultural applications such as automated potato pest detection, alongside contributions to sustainable urban development research.
With a strong publication record in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Deb has earned international recognition, including a Gold Medal at the International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX’19). Through her research, she continues to contribute innovative, eco-friendly solutions toward a more sustainable future.
